Ugh...doctors...

Well in the past 7 days we have dealt with Mastitis (me), an eye infection/clogged duct (Peanut), the start of reflux medicines (Peanut), having an umbilical cord burned off (Peanut) and second degree burns from a strange reaction to what they used to burn off the cord. On top of that, I have an outpatient surgery scheduled in a couple of weeks and Peanut has an upper GI scheduled for next week. I think the doctors/pharmacy are going to retire off of us.

When I took Peanut in for a check up yesterday the doctor decided to start her on medicine for GER or Reflux. We were hoping to avoid medication, but her choking and blue spells don't seem to be getting any better. She is having an Upper GI (which I was promised is totally noninvasive) done next Tuesday to check for any obstructions that may be causing the trouble. Basically, she has to miss a feeding and go in 4 hours from her last feed, drink some Barium and have an x-ray taken. Hope that it all goes well.

As for the belly button/cord issue. My girls like their cords. I think they hang on to them so they can find a way to plug back in. Sweet Pea had to have hers burned off because at 6 weeks it hadn't even started coming off. With Peanut, it got progressively mushy in her belly button. The blue part dried up and eventually started coming off, but was held on the last few days by a string. Talk about gross. The blue part finally fell off on Wednesday night, but there was still a chunk of cord underneath. The use a cream, Silver Nitrate, to burn it off. Apparently Peanut is very sensitive to it. Her belly button turned red and swelled up. There is now a huge burn, in the shape of a rectangle the size of the gauze area of a band aid, around her belly button. So we picked up a prescription for a burn ointment to heal it and prevent infection. Hopefully this will be the end of it all.

Here are some pictures of the belly button fiasco.
