OUCH

Last Saturday, I was laying down with Peanut for a nap. Daddy had just gotten home from seeing the new Batman movie with his friends and Sweet Pea had just gotten up from nap. Apparently, when she woke up they went out back to swing. Our swing set is on our deck and Sweet Pea was swinging in the infant swing without the straps (because she is too big). She must have leaned forward enough to shift her weight and wound up doing a somersault after landing on her face. When I woke up here is what I found.

Poor baby! It looks like she had Botox or a collagen treatment. As best as we can tell things are healing up. Her lip stayed swollen like that for about 3 days. Then her lips were totally chapped and she had skin peeling off of them. I think this was because she was sleeping with her mouth wide open. Today the skin is all off of her lips and the large scab under her nose fell off as well. It is healing up pretty nicely and we will be using Maderma on it to prevent scaring. Her two front teeth are shoved back further than the were and we still don't know if they are loose or if there is any damage inside her mouth. She won't let us anywhere near it. We talked to an orthodontist at our church and he said unless there was an infection or the pain didn't go away there is nothing that a dentist would do since they are baby teeth.

Sunday morning when we got ready for church, she saw herself in the mirror and fell apart. She didn't want to go to church and just cried and cried. It was pretty heart breaking. She has had trouble eating all week and we have had lots of milkshakes and slushies. Up until today we were having to cut everything into bite sized pieces and let her use her hands to eat, since a fork was hard to get into her mouth. At lunch she managed to eat a corn dog, so I think we are well on our way to healing.

This is one of the reasons she has been so difficult this week. I know it had to hurt (and probably still does) so bad. It was a tough balance this week between giving her sympathy and expecting her to behave. She has had a sore bottom, as well as a sore mouth this week, I'm sure.

With all of the trouble she has been in she has taken to saying things like, "You're cranky, Mommy", "I don't want to have a mommy and a daddy who tell me what to do" and "You're mean". It breaks my heart to hear her say things like this already. I was foolishly hoping I wouldn't hear those things for another 10 years. She has become so spoiled these days. She often asks people who come over, "where's my present" and we are about to make a rule that she gets nothing other than her birthday and holidays. It is so tough when she was the first child, niece and granddaughter on both sides. She has been spoiled rotten for the past four years and we are have our work cut out for us now.

Even with all the trouble she has been in the past few weeks, she is still one of the most well behaved, responsible, mature, good natured, almost 4 year olds I know. I am sure I am bias, but she really is. She has such a great since of humor, imagination and a wonderfully sweet heart. I will be so glad when things settle back down for her.

I can relate totally to the attitude. Jayden is so great, but oh my goodness! Some times I just want to smack him! Lately has been really bad. Some other parents with kiddos his age have said the same thing so hopefully (wink) it's something in the air that will soon pass. I have a feeling Jayden's realizing his life is about to change!
