Around 9:00 pm, I was getting her ready for bed and noticed that she felt cold and clammy. I had high hopes that her fever had "broken". I checked her temperature and it was 95.5 under her arm. I thought that was odd, but had hoped that her body had just overcompensated. I tried to put her to bed and she was NOT a happy camper. I tried rocking her and she was very agitated. She would lay down on my shoulder, push away from me and flop herself on the floor. She would then laugh, crawl around and then put her head down and fall asleep. This cycle continued over and over again. Daddy-O felt like she was just happy she felt better and wasn't quite tired since she slept so much today. I went from feeling the same, to worrying something else was going, back and forth. It was nice to see her laugh, but the way she would just fall asleep in weird places and positions was very abnormal. I finally put her to bed and she went to sleep, tossing and turning.
At around 11:00 pm, I went to check on her before going to bed myself. She was covered in sweat, but still felt cool. I checked her temperature again and it was still low. I called the on-call nurse because I have a really hard time putting my kids to bed when something seems "off". She had me take a rectal temp and agreed that it shouldn't be that low and that I needed to warm her up. It has been quite a few days of extremes!!! I stripped her out of her soaked onesie and put on some warmer pj's. I then wrapped her in a blanket and rocked her. The plan was for the nurse to call back in 45 minutes and for me to check her temp again after attempting to warm her. She called within 5 minutes and said that she was not comfortable waiting and that she had paged the doctor on call, since it was getting late.
The doctor called back and seemed to think that based on all the symptoms, that she had roseola. I guess it is a viral illness that starts with a high fever (usually 103+) for 2-5 days and then the fever suddenly drops. Then the patient breaks out in a rash and feels better. He said to wake her every three hours to see if she would drink something and play a little. I woke her at 2:30, but really who wants to play at that time. Since I felt this "test" was going to be useless, I simply prayed over her and went back to bed. She did still feel cold though.
This morning she woke up and I was hoping for a cool, happy baby. Honestly, I would take a low temperature over a high one any day. However, what I found was a hot baby. Again. This time it's not as high, 101.9, but a fever none the less. She also had not broken out in a rash. I called the doctor back and ran this all by him. He said it is probably not roseola and that she probably is fighting a secondary infection. We are supposed to go back in for blood work in the morning and just keep monitoring her. If she starts acting "really sick", we should take her in then.
By nature I am a know-er and a do-er. I don't like not knowing what I'm dealing with and I want a plan in place on how I am going to deal with it. One part of me wants to rush her off to the hospital, have the blood work done today and get her started on antibiotics, which is one option the doctor gave. The issue with that is with her immune system being compromised, she will most likely catch something while at the hospital. That is the LAST thing I want to happen so I guess I will just sit and watch for now. I guarantee I won't like it though!
I hope that you all have a wonderful Easter. I heard that our service was wonderful and I hope I can catch it online later.
I am so thankful for a God who would send His ONLY son to die, in MY place, to cover MY sins and selfish nature and then raise him again so that I can have an eternal life with Him. I am SO unworthy.

Hi Becky,
We will keep praying for Kate and of course for you as you take care of her! I agree with your FB comment--our kids definitely shouldn't ever get married :) Keep us posted. We love you guys!
Praying for Kate. So sorry it's happening. Nothing is worse than being helpless when your babies are sick.
