Friday night we decided to go camping with some friends. We figured if we weren't going to get better barricading ourselves in the house for 3 weeks, we might as well share our little "gifts" with everyone else. We packed up Friday afternoon and headed out to my parents to pick up my little brothers, J.T. and C. My parents had offered to host 16 junior high girls for a church function and taking the boys with us not only freed up another room, but saved them from 16 girls. I am not sure if they were thankful for this or not!
We decided to pack light because 5 people, a dog, a tent, 5 sleeping bags and 5 pillows, 1 change of clothes per person, a cooler and a bike trailer in an Escape seemed to be enough.
We drove out to Lake Somerville which is near Brenham. The drive was rainy and the kids played their Nintendo DS (L thinks her Leapster is a DS) most of the way. We got to the camp site, unloaded and set up tents. The wind was incredibly strong. We cooked dinner and had to eat in the tents because the wind was so bad. Later that night we had smores around the campfire. J.T. has horrible allergies and asthma and had a pretty good attack from the smoke. I wasn't even thinking about it being a problem. We got it under control and settled into bed around midnight. The wind and rain was so bad, I laid awake until about 5 am waiting for the tent to collapse or blow away with us in it. With 5 people and a dog in the tent, the sleep was pretty poor. We woke up Saturday to much prettier skies. We went for several bike rides and tried our hand at sailing. We hadn't even left the dock when the boom flew around and hit G in the head giving him a minor concussion. Once we got out in the bay, we had a few troubles and decided it was too windy to be out there with kids on the boat and called it a day.
Here are the kiddos ready to set sail!
We headed back to camp and began packing things up. Everyone else wound up staying until Sunday and they said the weather was great, but we needed to get back for lunch at G's folks house on Sunday.
Overall we had a great time and a fairly successful trip. Hopefully next time the weather will cooperate a little more. We were very blessed to not have any of the accidents turn out worse than they were. All in all we had a great trip and look forward to doing it again soon.
