Pee-Yew Barbecue

Last night we had some friends over for dinner. Some were invited guests and some were not. You see, our church had a fund raiser for a trip they are taking to Honduras. They were selling whole briskets, already marinated and cooked to perfection. We thought this would be a perfect opportunity to have people over. About an hour before guests were to arrive, G went out to water our new tree. When we planted the tree we filled in a hole near the front of our house with top soil. The hole was left when a tree and root system was removed years ago and has gradually grown bigger. We transplanted a little grass to this spot as well. G had just started watering this spot when a skunk came crawling out of the hole.

Say hello to my stinky friend

Apparently she had a den under our front porch. We filled the hole back in and she came and dug it back out. After hours of refilling the hole and banging on the window to try and scare her away, we decided to brick it in.

The great wall of skunk

She would just come back and dig around the outside of the bricks. Luckily she wasn't spraying at all. We soon learned we could put down as many bricks as we wanted and she was just going to keep digging. I am not sure if she had babies in there or if it was prime real estate, but she was determined to get back there. I called a few exterminators, the sheriff's and animal control and wasn't able to find any help under $200. So the boys decided to take care of the problem for us. They went and poured gasoline down the hole and then filled it back in with dirt. They were hoping it would just put her to sleep. About half an hour later, she sprayed. We still aren't sure if she was in the hole or not, but no one has dug anywhere near that area since. I really think she was in there because the smell is coming from the crack between the sidewalk and foundation, not from the dirt. I guess we will know from the stench in a few days if she was down there or not. Man, I'm glad we are leaving town. I just hope the neighbors don't report a foul odor and not seeing anyone for a few days. They may come searching for bodies.

Anyway, after the skunk fiasco we had a wonderful barbecue dinner and played Guitar Hero.

C, Cl, L and M rockin' out

LQ, L and M
Today I took L to the doctor, went to lunch with my mother and mother in law and ran some errands. L has the start of an ear infection so they went ahead and gave us an antibiotic for her. The doctor also checked me out. I am feeling a little better. I have a really bad cough that is just really wiping me out. Every time I lay down, I start another coughing fit. Hope it passes soon.
