The Day

Saturday was one of THOSE days.  I woke up with a "to do" list a mile long.  Planning vacations back to back is not smart.  It leaves A LOT to be done in the few weeks at home.  Kate woke up, nursed, played for a few minutes, cuddled up and went back to sleep in our bed.  This is something she VERY rarely does and since it was a Saturday, we took advantage of it and stayed in bed too.  Once Leah woke up, everyone was up.  Daddy-O informed me he was headed out to work on his motorcycle.  Leah wanted to watch a movie, so I put her and Kate in the playroom and started the movie.  They were playing very well together so I set out to tackle my list.  Around noon I tried to fix the girls lunch, but Leah didn't want any yet.    I went ahead and nursed Kate.  When she was done, she spit up all over her jammies.  I stripped her down and fed the girls lunch, then threw them in the tub.  While they were playing in the bath, I went back about my business.  All of a sudden I looked up to find a wet Leah starring at me.  She informed me that Kate had pooped in the tub.....the tub full of toys....and both girls.  Oh joy!  At least THIS time I hadn't JUST cleaned the bathtub.

I put Leah in our shower and went to "tackle" the mess.  I pulled Kate out and set her on the floor in our shower.  She was ticked and so was I.  I cleaned up the mess and the girls and got them dressed.  I put Kate down for a nap, Leah down for a rest time and continued on my list.  Daddy-O got home around this time and started on his list that I had so kindly put together for him.

I remained in a cranky mood and was busily at work when my brother called to see if we wanted to go on a bike ride.  It was beautiful out and it seemed like a great way to break my mood.  I told him I would call when Kate woke up from her nap in a couple of hours.  Fifteen minutes later she was up so we got the bikes and trailer out and all set up.  Micah and Isaiah showed up and we started loading kids.  It was then that we noticed one of the freshly inflated tire that was flat.  This particular wheel had quite a bit of damage from an old accident and we have been meaning to take it in and get it switched out with another wheel we already have.  We decided since we had to take it apart to get the inner tube out, we would just try to do it ourselves.  An hour later, Daddy-O, Micah and the kids took off.  I offered to stay back.

While they were gone I enjoyed the quiet while cooking dinner and working around the house.  When they returned, we ate dinner.  Kate made quite the mess and landed herself a bath in the kitchen sink.  Kate has been fighting a nasty head cold and cough for the last week or so.  She has been very congested and snotty.  Daddy-O put her in her car seat and climbed in the van.  I turned around and saw her vomiting all over.  I emptied one of the bags in my hands and yelled at Daddy-O to get  back there while I looked for wipes.  There was enough of it all over that cleaning on site was out of the question.  I kicked Leah to the back seat and rode next to her with a bag.  I felt like I was having a flashback of Disney.  She fell asleep on the way home and didn't have any more problems in the car.

When we got home Daddy-O took her up for bath #4, while I cleaned out the car.  He got her all cleaned up and in her jammies and was rocking her.  I was out hosing off the car seat, while talking to my mom on the phone.  I tried to go in the garage door and it was jammed.  I went to the front door and it was locked.  I didn't have my keys so I rang the doorbell.  Leah came to the door and I could hear her struggling to get it open.  I told her to go get daddy to which she replied, "I can't...Daddy neeeeeeeds you....Kate-Kate just threwed up all over him".  Oh great.  My mom said to call him, but I only had our home phone, so I couldn't.  She decided to call him and let him know to let me in.  Just about that time, Leah got the front door open.  I went upstairs and it looked like a war zone.  He was covered.  She was covered.  The chair was covered.  The safety gate was covered.  The floor was covered.  Covered all the way from the chair, past the safety gate, to the bathroom.  Which was covered.

I really wasn't sure where to begin.  Daddy-O and Kate hopped in our shower (#5) while I started trying to clean.  My mom called to see if I had made it in.  She offered to send my sister over with a steam cleaner.  Thank God!  I was standing there with a roll of paper towels and a bottle of spray, just shaking my head.  I cleaned the chair and disassembled and cleaned the gate while I waited.  I put in a call to the doctor to see if the medicine we got while in Florida would work for this and then went about the task of cleaning carpets.  That steam cleaner made my life SO much easier.  It will definitely be our next big purchase.  By then it was 10:30 pm and the girls were tired and hyper.  I didn't want to nurse Kate or put her to bed until we talked to the doctor so they just played on our bed, with a bucket.  The doctor finally did call and said that unfortunately the medicine would not help in this case, but that Kate could eat what she wanted.  I gave her a cup of juice to try and rinse out some of the drainage and then nursed her.  She hasn't been sick like that since.  She is still really gunky and the doctor went ahead and put her on an antibiotic to help her clear up.

Here's to a better weekend!

Bless your hearts! Do you have any hair left? I hope everyone is feeling better and way recovered now. Is Kate doing better since the antibiotic?
