Give me a break!

Due to the stress of the past week, I decided to call in to work yesterday and take L out. Since I apparently hadn't been a very good mommy, my first thought was to get away and spoil her rotten. The truth was , I wanted to make sure she knew how much I loved her. As we left home, I explained to her that I didn't feel like I had been very fair to her the last few days. I apologized to her and promised to try harder, even when I'm stressed, tired, sick, etc. We made a pinky promise to have a fun trip and to have no fussing. Then we stopped for gas and breakfast. What's a road trip without some junk food. L enjoyed a breakfast of blue slushie and some bubble gum as we headed off to Galveston.

L and her goodies

We got to Galveston, ate lunch and headed to the beach. We spent several hours swimming, hunting for shells and enjoying a beautiful day. I don't think the temperature got higher than 70 degrees and it was very windy. The water was freezing, but it didn't stop L from jumping in. She asked me no less than 100 times as we were approaching the water if she could swim. As soon as she reached the edge of the ocean, she did a belly flop in about 2 inches of water. It knocked the wind out of her and she stood up and ran as deep as she could go. It was pretty funny to see.

After we left the beach, we headed to the hotel and got checked in. We had just made our last trip hauling stuff to the room, when L noticed that they had a pool. So it was right back to the water. L enjoyed swimming, while I sat out enjoying the beauty of the day.

L swam for about 45 minutes before I noticed she was starting to get a little bit pink. I decided to drag my little fishy out of the water for the day. We headed back to the room for a shower and a quick nap.

Sleeping beauty (I love that face)
After nap, it was off to the Rainforest Cafe. This was our most successful trip yet. We made it through dinner and the ride. Unlike our previous attempts, we even had some smiles.

We couldn't help but revisit the beach after dinner. It was so beautiful outside. The night was clear and cool and this is what God gave us to look at.

God's beautiful handiwork

We sat out on a pier cuddling and talking until dark. We then went back to the hotel and watched a movie in bed. We both slept so well. The hotel didn't have alarm clocks (strange, I know) and I forgot to call for a wake up call. I knew breakfast ended at 9 am and had made the executive decision to skip it. I also knew check out was at 11 am, but didn't think that would be a problem. I was wrong. A friend of mine called at about 11:15 and woke me up. We threw on some clothes, threw everything in our bags and were checking out a little after 11:30 am. We drove down to the Strand and had lunch at one of my favorite spots, Yaga's Cafe. There is nothing really special about it, but I just really like it.

Lunch at Yaga's
We then walked the Strand for a while and came across the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Yummy! Leah picked out some rainbow sherbet and I got a caramel apple. Unfortunately, L learned that Mommy has better taste than her and ate most of my apple.
Notice the mouthful is not of ice cream
So after throwing away most of her ice cream we headed out. We stopped at an outlet mall on the way home. I have no idea where we were, but what's a girls trip without some shopping. We picked up a few things there and came on home. We made it back home just before dinner. We had such a great time together. We kept our pinky promise until the ride home, when L cratered from not having a nap. I had so much fun and wish that we could do girls night out at least once a week. I learned even more why I love that child so stinking much and hope that she knows how much I love her, too.
